Hello and welcome to another episode of Worldwide Wonderful Women. I am your host, Paula Harris, and this podcast is for women who are all about learning how to live in God's divine power. It is produced on behalf of Transformed Worldwide Ministries. Thank you so much for being here. Happy Mother's Day! This is episode number 384 and it's entitled, "The Loving Protection of a Mother." From the very beginning, God established family as a place of nurture, growth and protection. Mothers play a key role in the family, and although men are normally the stronger in strength, a mother's protection is something you don't want to come up against. Mothers will normally protect their children no matter what. Psalm 46:1 states, "God is our refuge and strength and ever present help in trouble." And most families know they can turn to mom for refuge, strength and help in trouble. My son stated the other day that he had told his wife that my mom's hand or leg can be falling off and she will find a way to get to you to help you. Now that touched my heart because he knew that I will always make an effort to be there to help when needed. With Mother's Day being celebrated this month, I'm focusing on moms. Even if you're not a natural mom, please listen to the rest of this podcast. But in doing so, I'm not bashing husbands or men. I just want to say that. Isaiah 66:13 reminds us, "As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you." Now, this is not accidental language. God intentionally compares his own comfort to that of a mother. Why? Because he knows that maternal love communicates something deeply personal, something safe, tender, and protective. A mother notices what others miss, protects before danger is even visible, and intercedes even when words fail. This is not just instinct. It is God's design. And when you reflect on the nurturing and protective nature of motherhood, you are actually catching a glimpse of God Himself. When we think of a mother's protection, we often think in physical terms, like keeping a child safe from harm, ensuring that their needs are met, and guarding them from danger. But really, true protection goes much deeper. A godly mother protects, first of all, the heart, the mind, the identity, and the spiritual direction as best she can. This kind of protection requires discernment, wisdom, and total dependence upon God. A mother who is rooted in scripture is equipped to guide and protect not only behavior, but belief. Because the greatest battles your children will face are not always visible. They have battles of identity, "Who am I?" Battles of truth, "What is right?" Battles of purpose, "Why am I here?" A mother who walks closely with the Lord becomes a spiritual gatekeeper, guarding what enters her home and what shapes her children. Think about the times a mother stays awake when her child is sick, prays over her children when they're unaware, intervenes before mistake becomes a consequence. This is the same heart God has toward you. He's not waiting for you to fail. He is actively working to guide you, to protect you, to draw you closer. The loving protection of a mother is not just care, though. It is pursuit. And so is God's love. He is pursuing you. And his covering is not distant. It's personal, intentional, and constant. And one of the most powerful ways a mother protects her family is through prayer. Prayer is not the last resort. It is the first line of defense. A praying mother covers her children in truth. She invites God into every situation and releases her fears and receives peace even as they get into adulthood. There are things you cannot control, but there is nothing you cannot carry to God in prayer. And prayer does what human effort cannot. It reaches the heart you cannot change, seek situations you cannot fix, and the future which you cannot see. A mother who prays is never powerless. One of the most challenging aspects of motherhood is knowing when to protect and when to release. Now I have to admit, I did a lousy job in releasing my three sons. The Lord still has to prompt me to shut my mouth or be still and know that he is God when they're going through trying situations. I want to rescue them and their families. I have to learn how to step back in my protection and trust God's protection, which is much greater than mine. I have had to learn to not interfere with God's plan or guidance of them. And believe me, this has not been, nor is it presently, easy for me. Protection is necessary, but so is growth. A mother's love must mature alongside her child. There comes a time when guidance replaces control. Wisdom replaces instruction. Trust replaces oversight. And again, this can be difficult because protection feels safe. But release requires faith. Just as God allows us to make choices, learn lessons, and grow in him, mothers must also trust that what has been planted will take root. This is where faith becomes essential. Faith says, I've done what God has called me to do, and now I trust him with the outcome. Let's be honest, too. Loving and protecting others can be exhausting. There are moments when you feel unseen, you feel unappreciated, and you wonder if what you are doing even matters. But God sees what others do not. Every act of love, every prayer, every sacrifice. Believe me, it all matters. Galatians 6:9 reminds us, "Let us not grow weary in doing well." Why? Because there is going to be a harvest and the seeds that you are planting today, mom, through love, discipline, and protection, will produce fruit in time even when you cannot see it. Whether you are a mother or not, you are a child of God and His protection over you is even greater than the strongest maternal love. He knows your needs before you ask. He sees the dangers you cannot perceive. He guides your steps even when you feel uncertain. So just as a child finds safety in a mother's arms, you are invited to find safety in Jesus. You are not alone, you are covered. You are deeply loved. So motherhood is not just some role, it's a calling. And like any calling, it requires growth, renewal, and intentionality. You cannot pour out what you don't have. And that is why investing in your relationship with God is essential and not optional. If you desire to grow deeper in your faith or be strengthened in your spiritual foundation and walk confidently in your God-given purpose, I encourage you to explore the resources that are available on our website that is given at the end of this podcast. The loving protection of a mother is one of the most powerful forces on earth, but it is not meant to stand alone. It is meant to point us back to God, the ultimate protector, provider, and source of love. If you are a mother, be encouraged. Your role matters more than you know. And if you're not a natural mother, receive this truth. God's protection over you is constant, intentional, and deeply personal. And in every season his love remains the same for you. I have come into a season of my life where this Mother's Day podcast will be the last one. I hope that you have enjoyed all the podcast over the years.
